About:

After a long and experience rich life, Arlene Walker, age 89, passed to her next destiny on the 7th of November, 2019. Arlene was born on February 26, 1930 in Gresham, Oregon, the only child of Mildred Deshazer Hanson and Raymond Hanson.Arlene came from a family of loggers in Oregon and married a logger, Gilbert Walker, soon after her graduation from high school in May of 1948. She later followed her husband first to Northern California, then to Wyoming in the early 1950’s. Their marriage of seventy-one plus years produced survivors including three children (Larry, Lee and Lynn), three grandchildren (Amanda, Grant and Tennille) and four great grandchildren (Issac, Jackson, Caroline and Bastian) and her loving husband Gilbert. As with many Wyoming married women, she lived on a ranch and was a mainstay in all the aspects of sheep and cattle raising, crop management along with maintaining several horses. In her spare time while raising her three children and managing the ranch with Gilbert she guided hunters as the first Wyoming woman outfitter. Later she and Gilbert became owner/operators of a lodge near Ten Sleep where she managed meal preparation and service while providing lodging for summer tourists. This later expanded to include special event smorgasbords during the off-season months for the local community. After moving to Buffalo in 1970, she progressively became a photographer in her own right, loving the scenery so unique to the local landscapes of aspen, spring flowers and mountain panoramas. Those pictures were a derivative of the mountain expeditions and camping with family and friends in the Bighorns and Sunlight Basin. As a family provider, cooking and canning coming from her loves of gardening and flowers, became the delight of her husband, children and close friends. On her retirement in 1990, sewing and quilt making through the homemakers’ club, volunteering at the local hospital, and becoming more active in church became the mainstays of her later life. Arlene will be missed by her family as the dynamic core of their lives providing examples of a fully lived life with all that is brought with it. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements..
