About:

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Betty Elaine Bocek, passed away on Tuesday, November 26th, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. We are so blessed that she had been able to live in her home on the ranch until a few days before her death. She was born on June 26, 1927, in Buffalo, Wyoming, to M. Jeanne and Ralph Edmonds. When she was small, she lived for a few years in the Passaic, Wyoming, area and it was quite remote. At six years old, she boarded with the school teacher, only coming home on weekends. Her family later moved to Yakima, Washington, and then again moved back to Wyoming where she attended Sheridan High School and then spent the rest of her life here. She met her husband, John J. Bocek, at a dance at Wyarno. This was after serious warnings from her mom that she did not want her getting involved with those “wild cowboys” on Dutch Creek. That warning floated off in the breeze after she met “that one cowboy” that she would spend her life with. They were married in Hardin, Montana, on August 1st, 1945. They started out with a small ranch on Dutch Creek and working together, built up their ranch into what exists today. She loved the Lord and became a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in 1983. Betty loved horses and was an avid horsewoman, having many, many different horses throughout her life. She also loved doing pencil and pen and ink drawings and did quite a lot of pictures that she gave away to friends and family. She loved crocheting afghans and made each of the kids one – doing this while sitting up at night waiting for whomever was out checking cows during calving to come back in. She loved traveling and went a lot of different places with her kids and with her mom. Dad used to call her the traveling saleswoman. She got quite a kick out of playing the five cent slot machines in Deadwood or when her and her mom would go through Las Vegas. She never lost or made money – just had fun.Her beloved husband, John, proceeded her in death on September 18th, 1998. She is survived by their four children, Jim Bocek (Barbara), John Bocek, Patty McKey (Earl), and Sandy Peterson (Eric), all of whom live in the Sheridan area. She also loved Mary Kuzara (Mike), like family. She had five grandchildren – Michelle Ostler of Sheridan; James Bocek of Phoenix, AZ; Jammie McKey Prager of Ladera Ranch, CA; Jennifer Bennett of Buffalo, WY, and Tammy McKinley of Sheridan. Six great grandchildren - Kami Ostler (Sheridan), Connor McKey (Wyarno), Alexis McKinley (Sheridan),Tanner and Colson Bennett Buffalo) and Sydney Prager (Ladera Ranch, CA). Betty was loved and adored by her family and she was as devoted to them as they were to her. She had a full and rewarding life but she loved her family above all things. Words cannot express how much she will be missed but the happy memories will go on forever.Cremation has taken place and at her wishes, there will be no services. The family will gather for a private memorial later on. Memorials or donations in her name can be made to the Sheridan Livestock 4H Club, 82 Taylor Road, Sheridan, Wyoming 82801. She would love that.Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
