Calvin W. Nagel, 83, of Sheridan, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Sheridan Memorial Hospital.Calvin was born on February 27, 1930 in Lingle, WY to parents John and Amelia (Litt) Nagel. After high school he joined the United States Air Force. Calvin was an AF Airman 1st Class, and was stationed in England at the close of the Korean conflict.After his discharge from the military, Calvin settled in Wheatland, Wyoming. He was on duty with the fire department for a short time before accepting a lineman position with the Rural Electric Association. He worked 18 years for the REA. On January 16, 1955 he married Janice A. Woolsey of Wheatland.In the early years of their marriage, the couple purchased a 40 acre farm outside of town. Calvin raised sheep and hay in addition to his lineman job in town. The couple raised three children together, and in 1971 moved the family to Laramie, Wyoming where Calvin worked as a lineman with Pacific Power & Light Company. In 1977 he settled in Rock Springs to patrol power lines where he worked in this capacity until he retired in 1991.Calvin\'s retirement years were spent in the Sheridan area where he pursued mechanical, electrical, and carpentry projects. He also filled his time with handyman activities in the home and yard. The challenge of a new project continually captivated him. Calvin\'s motivation to see a task to completion was usually high as was his enthusiasm to help others with their endeavors. Calvin enjoyed reading, walking, learning new skills, his dogs, and visits with friends and family. He was a member of the Church of Christ.Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, John and Amelia Nagel; one sister, Judith, and three brothers, Marvin, Raymond and Everett Nagel. He is survived by his wife, Janice, and his children, Devona Nagel of Sheridan, Kendal Nagel of Rock Springs, Wyoming and Dean Nagel of Sheridan; his siblings, Dorothy Ruppel of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Darlene Thompson of Glendo, Wyoming, Sharon Kreiling, residing in Missouri, Carol Worth of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Allen Nagel of San Pablo, California, Murray Nagel of Vancouver, Washington, Linda Johnson of Gering, Nebraska and his grandchildren, Jason Oltion, a student of the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming and Keely Oltion, a student at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.Memorials to honor Calvin may be made to the Sheridan Senior Center at 211 Smith Street, Sheridan, Wyoming 82801 or to the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter at 84 East Ridge Road, Sheridan, Wyoming 82801.A Celebration of Life for Calvin will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at the Church of Christ, Sheridan,with a reception to follow at the church.Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
