George Ostrom Jr. passed away on Thursday, August 8th, 2019.  Born March 18th, 1928 in Sheridan, Wyoming to George and Gladys, he was raised and went to school in the Sheridan/Big Horn area.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1946 and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1954.  George worked over 50 years in the drilling industry. He married Jeanene Moss in Sheridan, WY and raised five children.George enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting and was an active member of the Elk’s Lodge. He met his companion Joan Lund in 1982. They enjoyed 37 years together.Survivors include his three children, Marilou Ficken her husband Joe, William Ostrom and wife Lynda, and Terri Ostrom. Seven grandchildren; Shawn Ficken and wife Denise, Tim Ficken and wife Erica, Lyndsey Iberlin and husband Lee, Cameron Ostrom and wife Emily, and Austin Ostrom, Lori Salo and Brian Miller; and seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Pat Kaufman and Mary Lou Robbins and children Sharon Kay Miller and John Keith Ostrom.A Celebration Of Life will be held at Kane Funeral Home in Sheridan, WY on Saturday, August 17th at 10:00 a.m. with Military Honors. George received many medals during his time of service. A reception will follow in the Kane Reception Hall. Memorials in George’s name may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, PO Box 575, Northhampton, MA 01061.Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements.
