Click Here For DirectionsJanette “Jan” Plott, 87, died on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family.Janette Fairbank was born on April 26, 1926 to Claude and Ann (Krezelok) Fairbank in Sheridan. She was raised on Lower Prairie Dog and attended school in Sheridan, graduating from Sheridan High in 1944. Her love of school was evident at an early age and set the stage for her successful career as an art and music teacher. Jan met Stanley Plott at the University of Wyoming and they married on February 21, 1947. Jan graduated from UW with a BA in Education and from Black Hills Stage College with her MA in Education.Over her teaching career in Sheridan and Dickinson, ND, Jan taught students from kindergarten through graduate school. Her favorite students were those in third grade as she witnessed the joy in first discovering art and music. Often dubbed “my favorite teacher” by students of all ages, Jan unlocked the love of art in many. Her love of art and innate teaching abilities were a gift to any student. Jan was named Wyoming State Teacher of the Year in 1970.Jan and Stan operated Jan’s Ceramics for over 20 years and Jan earned over 30 national awards including 6 judge’s awards for her unique and beautiful pieces. Jan was a voracious reader and loved the library, she read a book a day for over 65 years. Well known to the library staff in Sheridan and Dickinson, she wishes any memorials be donated to either of these libraries.Jan was famous with her family and friends for her quick wit, love of reading and horse racing. Jan mastered many art mediums including oils, pastels, watercolor and batik. Portraiture was her favorite subject matter. She loved visiting the ocean.Jan was preceded in death by her parents and brother Claude Fairbank. She is survived by her brother, Glenn (June) Fairbank,children; Diane (Bill) Hawkins, Ocean Park, WA; Cindy Misty (Ed) Plott- Barbula, Sheridan; Bruce Plott, Evanston; Lynne Skaggs (Jody Benth), Sacramento, CA. Grandchildren Ryan (Holly) Burr, Washington DC; Jon (Marci) Plott, Salt Lake City, UT; Stephanie Plott, Idaho Falls, ID; Austin Saling, Sacramento, CA; Travis (Brenda) Saling, San Diego, CA. Great grandson Gunnar Plott with two great grandsons due to arrive in July, Jackson Burr and Marshall Plott.Graveside services were held on Wednesday, July 3rd at 8:30 am at the Sheridan Cemetery.Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
