Former Navy Petty Officer Jeffrey Lynn Gemmill died in the early morning on December 12, 2023 while in Sheridan Memorial Hospital, Sheridan, WY resulting from a lengthy stay as he experienced continuing difficulties from an earlier trip to hospital.  His son,daughter and sister were by his side for the entire journey over the last 3 weeks. 

Jeff,as he preferred to be called, was born on April 16, 1964 to theparents of Jon Lynn and Roberta Lorraine Gemmill in Fullerton, CA, Jeff Graduated High School from Upland High School and immediately joined the United States Navy. He did schooling in Great Lakes Illinois with emphasis on Electrical Technician. He was then deployed to Naples, Italy where he met and married another Navy gal,Nancy Dianne Meeks. They married in 1987, while they were still in Italy. The following year, while still in Naples, baby Bryan Thomas Gemmill was born on March 6th, 1988. Shortly after they returned to the states to continue their commitment to the military, landing in Jacksonville, Florida where they had a little girl, Sarah Nicole Gemmill on April 10th, 1990. Jeff loved his kids, was a great father,and even cared for his children while his wife was attending air traffic control school in another state. Jeff left the military after approximately 13 1/2 years served.  He took his skills and worked for a dental instrument company repairing instruments, etc. He lived in Maryland for a short period of time doing government contract top secret clearance work. He finally decided to lay his roots in Wyoming, first Rock Springs, and finally in Sheridan Wyoming. 

His favorite sports included baseball with the Braves as his team,football (Las Vegas Raiders), the Jags of course. He loved pool and darts. He loved to fish whether it was deep sea fishing in the Baja,the Atlantic, The Pacific or just good ol bank fishing at Flaming Gorge, Big Horn Mountains, or any other remote, quiet place. Jeff loved to cook, he professed he was the best steak maker in the land.He worked as a chef at a few local restaurants. He was working for the VA in housekeeping when he passed and always said, no job too small or big and he loved it, and the team he worked with. He loved dogs, especially Boxers. He loved to fish in open water, lakes or streams. 

Hisis survived by his son and daughter in law Bryan Thomas and Samantha Gemmill of Jacksonville, FL., His daughter and her husband Sarah Nicole Gemmill Hurley and Richard Hurley, his “baby sister”Cheryl Dick and her husband Daniel L Dick, 5 grandchildren, Sophie Mae Gemmill, Hannah Hurley, Joseph Ryan Hurley, Savannah Rose Hurley and Natalie Reign Hurley. With a great grand baby on the way In May.Several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by, his one true love and ex wife Nancy Dianne Weeks Gemmill, of which neither remarried. His mother, Roberta Lorraine Bell Gemmill, his father Jon Lynn Gemmill, His sister Charlene Jean Gemmill, paternal grandparents Myron and Gayle Gemmill,his maternal grandparents Robert and Lorraine Bell, several aunts,uncles and a a few distant relatives. 

Military services will be conducted in a national cemetery at a later date in Florida per his request.

I would also like to thank ICU, Dr Hall, Greg, Dr Zamora, and Annikki(sp.) all the other staff in that very challenging department. We would also like to thank the med surg floor, Dr Syler, Piper, Julie,and all the other nurses and staff that came in and respected our very private, emotional situation. It’s not ever easy, but you made us as comfortable as you could, and addressed any concerns you may have had. Thank you from,
