Jesse M. Athey, 73, of Sheridan, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at the VA Medical Center.Jesse was born on July 20, 1943, to Alva and Mildred (Flately) Muzzey in Alliance, NE. He was adopted by Ross and Armenta Athey in 1955. He was in the Alliance and Hemingford, NE area.Jesse served in the Army, Guards and Reserve and was Honorably Discharged. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for twenty five years. He enjoyed making jewelry, woodworking and gardening.Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, and adopted parents, numerous siblings. He is survived by his children; Sonja (George) Campbell of North Platte, NE, Jeff (Deb) Athey of Gothenburg, NE, Jana (John) Stegar of Stering, AK, Sarah Bates (Chris Hayden) of Sheridan, WY Chad (Toni) Bates of Sheridan, WY, grandchildren; Andy Dishman, Serrita (Charlie) Allen, Christopher Athey, Starlita Dobbins, Nathan (Jerrica) Woods, Joshua Weir, Tonni Keith, Thomas Campbell, Kelsi Hayden, Tyler Bennett, Ashley Bates, Alexis Bates and Kayla Stegar. He is also survived by his great grandchildren; Georgina Dishman, Quinton Vieyra, Dominique Vieyra, Gage Allen, Kevryck Dobbins, Kaela Woods, Lily Woods, Gracie Allen, Aubrieann Keith, Adalyn Dishman, Rayna Weir, Angelyn Dobbins, Charlee Dishman, his sister Nellie Athey of Alliance, NE and brother Leroy (Geri) Muzzey of AZ.Jesse will be buried in the State Veteran\'s Cemetery in Alliance, NE with Military Honors.Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
