About:

Laura Ruth McGlothlin, 89, of Billings, MT, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 28, 2025, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Laura Ruth was born on July 28, 1935, in Sheridan, Wyoming to William Earle and Mayme (Keller) Miller. She was raised on the family ranch outside Lodge Grass, Montana, alongside her grandparents, parents, and siblings, Bill and Marian.

She attended Montana State University in Bozeman, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education. While at MSU, she met Charles McGlothlin through the rodeo club, and they were married on June 22, 1957.

Chuck’s work with the Forest Service took them on many adventures, living in various places throughout Montana, Idaho, and New Mexico. Along the way, they built lasting friendships– many of which endured until Ruth’s final days, with cherished visits from dear friends and loves ones.

Throughout the years, Ruth held a variety of positions with credits unions, school districts, and the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation, retiring in 1994. A talented seamstress, she shared her skills as a 4-H leader and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Though she often claimed she didn’t enjoy cooking, her home was always filled with delicious meals (especially her chicken & noodles, potato soup, and chocolate roll!) and the door was always open for whoever happened to stop by. Above all, Ruth prioritized family and was diligent about documenting the family history for future generations. She was devoted to making sure everyone was cared for and loved, right up to the very end.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, son Timothy, son-in-law William Johnson and sister Marian. She is survived by her son Michael McGlothlin, Anchorage AK, and daughters Shelley Johnson, Billings MT and Shonna (Tom) Ulibarri, Greeley CO, grandchildren Nicholas(Colby) Ulibarri, Carley (Patrick) Foxx, Chance Johnson, and Cheyanna (Erin) McGlothlin, her brother Bill Miller, sister-in-law Barbara Sare, brother and sister-in-law Everett and Mary McGlothlin, several nieces and nephews, and many good friends that she considered family.
