Micheal D. Semler, 75, of Sheridan died Saturday, July 11, 2009, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Born July 25, 1933, in Oxford, Colo., to Gus and Martha (Miller) Semler, he grew up and attended schools in Ignacios, Colo. He tended sheep for the Colorado Stockmen’s Association before moving to Wyoming, where he worked for the Bear Claw Ranch. He married Marie Zingg on Feb. 7, 1955, in Sheridan. He worked on several drilling rigs and for Sheridan Iron Works. The couple moved to Durango, Colo., where he worked in the oil fields for five years until returning to Sheridan to manage Coffeen Texaco in 1967. He managed the station for 30 years. He enjoyed stock car racing and drove car No. 39 for five years. After retirement, he worked several jobs including part time for the Country Bounty. He was a member of Elks Lodge 520. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snow machining, yard work and helping his kids with their cars. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael, in 1959 and three brothers. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jim of Gillette; two daughters, Gail Trask and Jody Vance, both of Custer, S.D.; a sister, Betty Bishop of Cimarron, Kan.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Memorials may benefit Elks Lodge Building Fund, Box 624, Sheridan, WY 82801, or Sheridan Dog & Cat Shelter, 84 East Ridge Road, Sheridan.
