Mollie Ella Urmson Gray
About:
Mollie Ella (Urmson) Gray, 85, of Dayton, WY, passed away, with family by her side, on January 2, 2025, after a lengthy fight with Dementia/Alzheimer’s.
Mollie was born in Sheridan, WY, on Nov. 8, 1939, to Thomas Laren and Doris Irene (Aspinwall) Urmson, one of five girls. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1958 and married her high school sweetheart, Walter Gray, September 6, 1958. They were married for 63 years before his death in 2021. After Walter earned his bachelor’s degree in Education, they moved to Dayton where he taught and coached at Tongue River High School. Mollie washed football uniforms, drove cheerleaders to games and helped him with other school tasks. She began working for Dr. Seymour Thickman in the early 1970s and often brought home penicillin shots when her girls were sick and didn’t want to go to school. As a natural caregiver, Mollie continued working in the medical field after she retired. She continued her career for 24 more years working as an EMT and firefighter for Dayton Rescue. She also taught CPR classes and helped new EMTs getting their certification. She loved being there for people in need and she was GREAT at it.
Mollie enjoyed spending time in the mountains with family, traveling to the annual “sisters’ reunion”, the annual “office crew” luncheons, crocheting, arrowhead hunting, and spending time with her bowling league for over 20 years. She also had many Avon customers for several years. Her biggest fear was Alzheimer’s so she kept her mind busy with crossword puzzles, Scrabble and she was a voracious reader. But alas, it came for her anyway. She fought it hard for the last 11 years. As each stage reared its ugly head, her family learned patience, perseverance and how to love even stronger when it is sometimes difficult. After all, the best caregiver deserved the best care.
Mollie is survived by her three daughters: Susan Sharkey (Don), Lisa Gray, and Robin Dockery, three sisters: Doris “Skip” Sweeney, Helen Wilson, and Tomi Pugh, seven grandchildren: Jaci Garrison (Zac), Kristopher Dockery (Leah), Tanner Dockery (Whitney), Lane Dockery, Dylan Sharkey, Emily Palo (Jacob) and Zoe Gray (Ilker Eskiblaci), and eight great-grand children: Alexis, Jordan, William and Brice Garrison, Skylar Dockery, Walker and Paisley Dockery, and Ruby Palo. Mollie is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Anna Ahlstrom and her loving husband, Walter.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sheridan Hospice and the Transitional Care Unit at Sheridan Memorial Hospital for the care, concern and love they gave to Mollie.
A service to celebrate Mollie’s life will be held on January 15 at 1:00pm with reception to follow at Kane’s Funeral Home in Sheridan, WY. All are welcome to come share stories and honor the memory of Mollie.
