About:

Ray P. Stroup, 84, of Sheridan, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, with his wife at his side.

Ray was born on August 18, 1940, in Sheridan to Harry and Margaret Stroup. He grew up in a busy household with his three brothers and two sisters. Ray began working at a young age, delivering newspapers just like his older siblings. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1958 and went on to attend Sheridan College.

Ray proudly served in the National Guard. He worked for many years as an engineer for the City of Sheridan before beginning a 27-year career with UPS in 1975. After retiring, he spent 13 years as a groundskeeper at the Powder Horn Golf Course, where he combined his love of the outdoors and golf with his strong work ethic.

In 1997, Ray married Ilene Garniss Eggum Stroup. Together they shared 28 years filled with love, laughter, and devotion.

Ray will be remembered for his kind heart, easygoing nature, and active lifestyle. He was an avid reader and enjoyed golfing, volleyball, pickleball, dancing, and playing bunko. Most of all, he treasured time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, Anthony Stroup of Henderson, NV; his daughter, Mary Stroup Jones of Mesquite, NV; his adopted children, Daniel Stroup of Gillette, WY, and Stephanie Stroup-Vela of Sheridan, WY; his stepdaughters, Tanya Eggum Serrata of Griswold, CT, and Sha’Ri  Eggum of Gatesville, TX; his sister, Alice Stroup Fisher of Colfax, WA; and his brother, Ned Stroup of Gillette, WY.
