
Richard "Dick" Dickinson

Richard Leland Dickinson (“Dick”), 86, of Sheridan, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sheridan on August 26, 1938, Dick was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by Karen (Garber) of Sheridan, his wife of 57 years. He is survived by wife, Roberta Stratton, son Scott and his wife Qiumei Dickinson, daughter Andrea Dickinson Cass and her husband Gregory Cass; and three grandchildren, Maxwell, Piper and Cole.
Dick retired from the U.S. Navy as Captain after 30+ of dedicated service and was the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and Meritorious Unit Commendation.
He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wyoming and a Ph.D. in Management from Arizona State University. Dick worked for over 25 years at California State University Sacramento. He was a Professor, Department Chair, and Associate Dean in the School of Business Administration; Executive Director of the Real Estate & Land Use Institute; Vice President for Business Affairs; and Executive Assistant to the President.
Dick lived an active life and loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed many hobbies over the years including running, reading, off- roading, traveling around the country in his RV, and playing with his many beloved dogs. With his long naval career, Dick especially enjoyed cruising on his boat “Crosswinds”, was Past Commodore of the Sacramento Yacht Club, and trained new owners to operate their vessels.
Inurnment will take place on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Mt. Hope Cemetery at 10:00 am Dick will be joined with his wife Karen, with a reception to follow at the Big Horn Women's Club.
