Richard Mumma, 92, of Sheridan, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020 at Sheridan Manor. He was raised in Illinois and served in the U.S. Air Force following high school graduation. After his service, he attended and graduated from the University of Denver, and then received his degree in architecture from the University of Utah. He moved to Sheridan in 1954 and began working as an architect. He continued to practice architecture in the Sheridan area for the next 63 years. During his long career, he designed many well-known residences and public buildings, including the iconic band shell in Kendrick Park.He was an excellent skier and enjoyed ski racing with the Little Bear Ski Club and serving on the National Ski Patrol. He was honored by the National Ski Patrol for his 43 years of service as a ski patrolman. He also bowled for many years on the GH Electronics team in the Tuesday night league. He was an active member of the Sheridan Lion’s Club, and served on Sheridan’s Board of Variance for many years. He loved spending time in the Big Horns hunting and fishing, and he was a devoted supporter of arts and music in the Sheridan community. He was a member of the Christian Science church in Sheridan.He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Henrietta. He is survived by his daughter Tracy (David Sturman) of St. Ignatius, Montana, son Duffy Exon of Sheridan, and dear friends Richard and Kathy Urbatchka of Sheridan, as well as grandchildren and honorary grandchildren Viktoria Exon of Palmyra, Tennessee, Nikolas Exon of Sheridan, Elijah Sturman and Lina Sturman of St. Ignatius, Montana, Lindsay Urbatchka (Jonah Booker) of Phoenix, AZ, Allison Phillips (Ian) of Boise, ID, and Colleen Rosetti (Rich) of Jackson, and great-grandchildren Addalyn Moore, AvaLee Moore, Myla Holmes and Maddex Moore of Palmyra.Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements.
