William J. Shaffer, 93, of Sheridan, WY died Tuesday, January 11, 2011, in Sheridan Manor.

Bill was born June 23, 1917, in Richville, MN to Van & Muriel (Richardson) Shaffer.

Bill grew up and attended schools in Lancaster, WI. He worked on several farms near Lancaster until going to work for the Johns Manville plant in Waukegan, IL. He served in the U.S. Navy and the end of WWII. After the service, he married Bernice Kirby in 1949. He returned to Johns Manville until going to work as a maintenance man for a local high school. In 1966, they returned to Lancaster and bought a farm. They moved to Sheridan in 1986. The greatest thing that ever happened to me was when I met the living Christ and became an eternal child of God. He attended Sunrise Assembly of God Church.

Bill is survived by his son Kenneth Shaffer of Texas; daughter Delores Nelson of Sutter, CA; several grand and great grandchildren; and close friends Don Bloxom and Buck and Pat Neel.

Graveside committal of his cremains will be in Lancaster, WI.
Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
