Born on May 27, 1950, Barney was a man defined by his sharp intelligence, exceptional generosity, and unforgettable sense of humor. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, hard work, and devotion to his family.

Barney spent his career as an Engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad, where his dedication and skill were well known. Beyond his railway career, he was also recognized as an astute businessman with a keen eye for opportunity.

His personal passions were vibrant mix that reflected his lively personality. Barney was a devoted enthusiast of 50's music and loved spending time admiring the craftsmanship at classic car shows. In his younger years, he enjoyed the open road, taking many memorable trips on his motorcycle and camping in the great outdoors. Above all, his greatest passion was his family.

His loved one will forever cherish his quick wit, iconic one-liners, and warm sense of humor. He was known throughout his life for his immense generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word.

Barney is survived by his beloved wife, Jill Averill; his children, Rex Averill (son) and Amber Averill (daughter); and his grandchildren, Andrew Averill and Sierra Teter (Averill). He is also survived by his brother., Steve Averill, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Champion Kane Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. with a reception to follow.

The family kindly requests that any tributes be made in the form of prayers or reflections on the kindness Barney shared throughout his life.
