Carlton "Carl" Patrick Dewey
About:
Sheridan, Wyoming – Carlton “Carl” Dewey, 75, passed away unexpectedly on June 6, 2026, surrounded by loved ones on the ranch he called home. Carl was a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle to his family. To his extended family and friends on the ranch, at church, and in the community, Carl was an absolute joy to all those around him and to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Born in Illinois, to the late John and Elizabeth Dewey, Carl spent his formative years in Tucson, Arizona.
After graduating from the University of Arizona, he began a dedicated career with Chevron. His journey with the company was a testament to his work ethic, rising from local service stations to driving trucks, and eventually moving to Vallejo, California, to serve in corporate new business development.
Despite his success in the corporate world, Carl’s heart remained in the wide-open spaces. After more than a decade in a suit and tie, he returned to Sheridan, Wyoming, to be closer to his parents and fulfill his lifelong dream of ranching. He traded city traffic for the occasional herd of cattle on the road, embracing the peace and hard work of the Wyoming landscape.
Carl was a man of quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and an impeccable sense of humor. He found his greatest joy in the simple, honest moments of life: fixing a tractor, mending a fence with his kids and neighbors, or searching for the perfect local Mexican food. As an avid outdoorsman, he escaped to the mountains to camp, fish and cook over an open fire at every opportunity. Above all, he was a man who could be relied upon for wise advice, a quick laugh, or a helping hand whenever it was needed.
While the ranch was his passion, his family was his greatest legacy. Carl and his wife, Janeen, shared a love story that began when they met and dated in high school. Though they initially took different paths, they eventually found their way back to one another and were married in 1992. Carl introduced Janeen to Sheridan, and to the two enjoyed the ranch and community, where they built a loving life together for over 35 years.
On the ranch, they welcomed family, friends, and even strangers with open arms. Carl loved to drive around the ranch, checking on the herd or fields and did so with Janeen, his kids and the dogs by the irside at every opportunity. The two enjoyed each other company spending time in the mountains, summer travel to see family and friends, local church and temple events, hosting dinner parties at the ranch, watching the snow fall while reading a good book together, and the occasion evening just sitting on the porch together watching the deer and cattle graze across the field at sundown. Their deep devotion to one another was apparent to everyone who met them and serves as an example to all.
Carl Joins the love of his life Janeen, and parents John and Elizabeth in the afterlife. Carl was a deeply loving father to Jennifer, John, Kip, and Bill. His influence and kindness will live on through them and his eight grandchildren: Alayna, Benjamin, Easton, Eleanor, Oliver, Amelia, Vivian, and LB. He is also survived by his siblings, Cliff, Mary, and David Dewey, and his two loyal dogs, Cookie and Roxy, who were his constant companions.
A public viewing will take place at The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m., and a reception following the service.
