Darlene was born on November 3, 1929, in the country at home on her parents, farm near Amazonia, Missouri. Her parents were Henry Harry Lammers and Ida May Cain Lammers. She attended a country school in Missouri until the family moved to San Francisco, California, probably when she was in fifth grade. Darlene was the second youngest of 14 children.

Baby sitting was Darlene's first job outside the home. Her first job other than taking care of children was working in Zinke's Shoe Repair in downtown San Francisco, when World War II ended.

When she was in 11th grade, she quit school in order to help her mother who had become diabetic.

In the mid-1940s, Darlene's sister Marge moved to Worland, Wyoming. A little later, Darlene moved to Worland to be with her sister.

For as long as Darlene could remember, she had been a Christian. When she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior, she was so young that she didn't recall the exact time she invited Him into her heart. Church has always been a very important part of her life, no matter where she has lived.

She met John Leonard Pearce, a young Oklahoma man, in Worland in the Assemblyof God Church after he had been honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy.John and Darlene were married on December 29, 1946. They had three children, Leonard Donald, then two girls, Rose Mary, and Chiquita May.

Darlene spent a lot of time on drilling and well-servicing locations since that was John's form of employment. During those times, she did the cooking, cleaning, and laundry for her family, often traveling on these jobs to states outside of Wyoming. For many years in Worland and then near Manderson, she did the book work for John's and Don's well drilling and servicing business and her careful work was very much appreciated. During the 1990s, she did an excellent job working for the local school district, first as a cook in the cafeteria and then as a custodian.

Darlene's husband John passed away in October 2010. At this time, she is survived by her son Don (Susan) Pearce, son-in-law Richard Rude, and seven grandchildren: Raymond (Heidi) Pearce, Paul Pearce, Brian Pearce, and Tom Pearce, Jon (Mattie) Walton, Brady (Sharrie) Walton, and Andrew (Alexis) Walton. Darlene is survived by seven great grandchildren.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, and two daughters, Rose Rude and Chiquita Walton.

Champion Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements.
