Everett DesmarteauMarch 2, 1948 – July 5, 2015Longtime Gillette resident, Everett Desmarteau passed away at his home on July 5, 2015, after a series of health issues.Everett was born to Walter A. and Betty L. (Flanders) Desmarteau in Great Bend, Kansas. He spent his early childhood in Kansas and then came to Wyoming living in Worland for a few years and then his father\'s employment transferred the family to Gillette where he lived until his death.During Everett\'s Campbell County High School years he received All Conference and All State awards in Basketball and Football. After graduation he attended Greely, Colorado College on a sports scholarship. After one year he enlisted in the US Navy and fought for his country in Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge on January 2, 1972.Returning to Gillette he worked for a time in a rock quarry and then went to work for his father as a contract pumper. After that he started the EWB Roustabout Service and continued in that business until health reasons forced him to quit.He was past commander with the Gillette American Legion Post 0042, for two years and was American Legion Baseball manager for several years. He received a Life Membership with the American Legion in 1990.Everett was preceded in death by his parents, fraternal and maternal grandparents and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by relatives in Kansas, MaeDean Reed in Sheridan, and special friends, Charley Snead, Bill Fitch and Richard Stone.Graveside services will be held at 1:00 on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Mount Pisgah Cemetery with Military Honors.Memorials to honor Everett can be made to the American Legion Post 0042, 200 Rockpile, Gillette, WY, 82716 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675.Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
