View Service Folder|Click for Video Tribute Jim Nipps passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the age of 81 after battling Parkinson’s Disease for nearly 23 years. Jim was born on May 31, 1938 to William and Alice Nipps in Jefferson, IA. He graduated high school in Cooper, IA in 1956 and went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in 1960. Following graduation, Jim spent two years teaching at a high school in Melvin, IA, and two years at a high school in Lone Tree, IA. He then returned to the University of Iowa where he earned his Master’s degree in Business Education in 1965.Jim started his career teaching at the community college level in 1965, where he taught for two years in Boone, IA. He moved to Sheridan in 1967, where he taught Business Law and Accounting for 31 years. Throughout his tenure at Sheridan College, Jim served as Faculty Senate President twice, and as Division Chair his final two years. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1997 and subsequently retired from Sheridan College in May 1998.Jim met the love of his life, Diana, while they were both at Sheridan College, and they were married on July 19, 1980. They spent over 39 amazing, blessed years together. They enjoyed spending time together traveling, taking cruises, going to the family cabin, and dancing.Jim was an active member of the Holy Name Parish, and served as a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as one year as a Grand Knight. He also participated in the Civic Theater Guild for several years.Jim is survived by his wife, Diana; sons Bill Nipps (Robin) and Mike Nipps; daughters Christie Lee (Dale), Jennifer Castro (Charlie), and Amy Nipps; grandchildren, Maggie Nipps, Mariah Castro, Amanda Link, Amber Townsley, and Shanna Herrick; and sister, Mary Harrison.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Day Break Adult Day Services at the Sheridan Senior Center, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801.A Rosary will be held at 3:00 with a Visitation at 4:00 on Sunday, December 8, 2019, at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 on Monday, December 9, 2019, at Holy Name Church with Fr. Glenn Whewell officiating. A reception will follow immediately in the parish hall with burial to follow in the Sheridan Elks Memorial Cemetery.Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements.
