About:

Joseph “Joe” Boyd Baker V, a multi-faceted individual, had many talents – an artist, gardener, outdoorsman, teacher, and railroader. He was especially proficient at being a trickster. And those who knew and loved him well stated he was a master at that skill because of his adept sense of humor.Joe was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on May 27, 1941. He moved with his family to Colorado when he was nine. Later, the Vietnam War interrupted his studies at Colorado State University. In country, he served on a long-range reconnaissance patrol (LRRP),and was wounded in action. For his service, Joe received two purple hearts and a bronze star.Once he returned, Joe completed his education in teaching, and then worked on his Master’s Degree. He left for Europe before completing it. Upon his return home, he worked for the Great Western Railroad before moving to Sheridan. He was employed, in Sheridan, as a conductor for the Burlington Northern Railroad for over 30 years.Joe married his sweetheart and soul-mate Darleen Michael-Baker in 1975. Some years ago, they purchased a home on Big Goose where the wildlife was plentiful, the creek soothed their souls, and the natural outdoor world fulfilled their lives. Four years ago, Joe sought medical treatment for cancer. Recently, he was unable to overcome the cancer’s recurrence. He died on October 8, 2018 due to the exposure of Agent Orange while serving in Vietnam, leaving behind Darleen and their critters. His mother and father, Evelyn Woodward Baker and Joseph Boyd Baker IV, and his older sister Jane Breese Baker preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Darleen Michael-Baker.
