About:

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Mark “the Shark” Wells, 73, left us unexpectedly on May 27th after a sudden heart attack, far sooner than any of us imagined. Born on May 21, 1953, in Little Falls, Minnesota, to Sylvia Jean Carroll Wells and David A. Wells, Mark moved to Sheridan as a child and made it his lifelong home. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1971, where he proudly served as Senior Class President—a role that reflected his lifelong gift for bringing people together.

Mark was loved by all who knew him and he was a man about town. As a teenager, Mark managed Ole’s Pizza, helping his stepdad, Ole, create a beloved local spot. He worked for years at Decker coal mine, played on a state championship softball team, The Sheridan Merchants, and later opened The Athlete’s Foot on Main Street and in Gillette. Mark was a founding member of the Polar Bear Plunge at Lake DeSmet and spent years as president of the Karz Club, traveling to car shows with his cherished ’66 Caprice, “Old Blue.”

Mark’s commitment to community and service was unwavering. Since 1998, he was a dedicated member of the Masonic brotherhood, holding numerous leadership roles in both the Masonic and York Rite organizations. He was honored to serve as Past Master of Sheridan Masonic Lodge #8, Past Commander, High Priest, and Illustrious Master of various Sheridan York Rite Bodies, and held distinguished positions at the state and national level. Mark’s leadership and generosity touched countless lives.

Above all, he lived for his family, grandchildren, and friends, traveling around to every sports event and life event he could squeeze in, usually with cookies in hand for anyone and everyone. He instilled in his family a deep love of movies, music, adventure and appreciation of the outdoors and wildlife. He loved to camp, hike, fish, bow hunt and spent many of his summers exploring the Big Horn Mountains.

Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Jean Carroll Daley; father, David A. Wells; and brothers, Dean Wells and Dave Wells.

He is survived by his loving Wife, Tammy Harper Wells, and his first wife, Jeannette Ridings Wells Evans. Siblings Chuck Wells (Nancy), Whitey Wells (Karen), John Daley, Deanna Daley Rives (Wade), Mike Daley (Bev), and Dixie Daley Johnson (Mick). Children, Angella Wells King (Steve), Casey Wells (Jennifer), Kyle Warnke (Jody), and Stephanie Warnke Phillips. Grandchildren Gabrielle Baumberger, Paden Koltiska, Kara Wells, Gavin King, Kate Wells, Sydney Warnke, Dylan King, Tyler Wells, Bentley Warnke, Donte Phillips, Stella King, and Cameron Phillips. Great-grandchildren Paisley Bowers and Penelope Baumberger.

Mark’s legacy of compassion continues through his gift as an organ donor. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 1st at 2pm at the Masonic Lodge in Sheridan at 109 N Gould St., Sheridan, WY – reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials in Mark’s name to the Black Mountain Nordic Club, which maintains the trails around Sibley Lake that Mark and Tammy loved to hike together.

Mark’s warmth, humor, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His spirit lives on in the family he cherished, the friends he loved, and the community he served so faithfully.

Champion Kane Funeral Home is entrusted with his care.
