About:

Michael (Mick) William Conroy was born in Morris, Minnesota on August 30, 1952 to Francis and Agnes Conroy. He was the youngest of eight children. He passed away in his home in Big Horn, Wyoming surrounded by loved ones after a long-fought battle with cancer on December 28, 2023 at the age of 71.

Mick’s first professional experience came in the late 1960’s working for Conroy Well Drilling along-side his father and brothers. Mick graduated from Kerkhoven High School in 1970 and went to Alexandria Technical and Community College that fall earning a degree in appliance repair. He then started to install flooring at Wente Furniture. During that time his mother, nearing the end of her life, faced numerous health issues. Mick’s care and devotion for her was notable and much appreciated.

Mick was proud to have served one term as Alberta, Minnesota’s Mayor. He ran his campaign on “Free Snow Removal for Senior Citizens”. He held true to his word and the seniors of Alberta received free snow removal by the inmates of the Morris Jail.

He married the love of his life Renee on April 28, 1990 at the Catholic church in Morris, Minnesota, and fell in love with her sons, Arik and Matt. He enjoyed following the boys to all their school functions and sporting events. Later in life he was blessed with two granddaughters, Charli and Chandler, who he adored and boasted about at every opportunity.

In 1990, Mick moved his family to Sheridan, Wyoming to expand his career and in 1992 purchased a flooring business. He served as CEO for Carpet Design from 1992 until his retirement in 2018. In his 26-year tenure in business Mick served the community above reproach.

Wyoming was more than home to Mick; he adored and coveted this place. Mick would often go for long drives through Wyoming’s beautiful scenery to take in all it had to offer. As a life-long outdoorsman, he enjoyed big game hunting and spear fishing on the Tongue River Reservoir with his sons and friends.

Anyone close to Mick understood his love for Nascar and Dale Earnhardt. He spent many hours sitting in his shop watching the races with his furry companions. He was a joy to visit with, whether on hunting trips, fishing, family gatherings, or sharing a pot of coffee. Mick’s sense of humor was unmistakable. If you knew Mick, it was likely you were the victim of one of his many pranks. Beneath all his bluster and blarney, he was truly a kind, generous, and compassionate man who loved his family and friends.

Mick is survived by his wife Renee his two sons Arik (Kimberli) and Matthew (Hillary) Kolden; his granddaughters Charli and Chandler; his siblings: Mary (Eldon) Voorhees of Benson, Minnesota; John (Della) Conroy of Hancock, Minnesota; Betsy (Basil) Rudnik of Isleton, California; Kathleen Conroy of Orinda, California; Trish Conroy of Alexandria, Minnesota; Pat (Sandy) Conroy of West Fargo, North Dakota; many nieces and nephew, who he loved very much.

Mick is preceded in death by his father (Francis James Conroy), mother (Agnes Regan Conroy), and brother (Jim Conroy).
