
Roger D. Kreger

FOWLER – Roger D. Kreger went to be with his Lord God Almighty and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven on Friday, March 6, 2026.
Roger, a friend and neighbor of 10 years since moving from Wyoming, and Dee of 15 years, ranched and hay farmed eight miles north of Fowler, Kansas, on Crooked Creek. He and Dee, along with one of her son, Toby Nevin raised a small bunch of Black Angus cattle and raised and sold their calves for eight years. He dearly loved his pastor, Dennis McDowell, and church family at Fowler Friends Church in Fowler, Kansas.
Roger was born along with twin brother Rodney, on December 23, 1952, to Victor W. Kreger and Velora Mae Kreger in Sheridan, Wyoming. Victor was a cowboy and conductor for Burlington Northern Railroad for 47 years. Mae was a Registered Nurse at Sheridan Memorial Hospital for 34 years. Victor passed away at 77 years and Mae at 52 years of age due to colon cancer.
Roger went to elementary school at Highland Park School, junior high school at Central Junior High School, and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1971. While in high school, he was a member of National Honor Society and in four sports per year for four years. As a sophomore, he was a member of the mile relay team that won the 4A state record. It was a record that stood in Wyoming for 25 years. He also played for the American Legion baseball program. The Troopers were State Champions for three out of his four years, finishing runner-up the fourth year. Roger then enrolled at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, to study medicine and entered the four year AFRPTC program. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in June, 1975, along with a B.S. degree in medical technology. During his four years of active duty, he was stationed at Castle AFB near Merced, California, and at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho. At Mountain Home he was CATCO, Chief Air Traffic Control Officer. He separated in 1980 at the rank of Captain.
Roger then returned home to Sheridan, Wyoming, and continued to operate heavy equipment at Decker Coal, Decker, Montana, where he worked for 18 years. Later he moved to Gillette, Wyoming, for the next 20 years before retiring and moving to Fowler, Kansas. He worked at Belle Ayr and Eagle Butte mines for 18 years. Roger worked for Meade County Road and Bridge for 8 years before retiring for good in late 2022. He bladed county roads and mowed right of ways.
Roger was an avid big game hunter all of his life. He harvested antelope, mule deer, and hunted elk all of the Bighorn Mountains. He harvested 55 elk mostly during the 43 years while hunting in Cedar Canyon Wilderness and on horses with his friends and his two children and son-in-law Dusty. Roger also loved trout fishing the Madison and Gallatin Rivers while in college at MSU in Bozeman, Montana. He loved fishing for mountain trout in the streams in the Bighorn Mountains.
Roger was a singer all of his life with a rich baritone voice. In high school he sang in choir that placed 1st in All District and All State competitions all four years, a barbershop quartet for two years. The Classics Four, and All Northwest Choir in Bose, Idaho. While in college at MSU in Bozeman, Montana, he sang in two singing groups, The Choral, a 60-voice choir and the Montanans, a classical singing group composed of the top 18 voices out of over 10,000 students.
Roger married Kim C. Sisneros while stationed at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho. They were married for 22 years. Born were two children, Shane and Tavey. Shane is 44 and Tavey is 42. Shane, a Major in the USAF for 14 years stationed in the south and southeast, is now living on the farm helping to take care of his dad. Tavey is a Registered Nurse and lives in Gillette, Wyoming. They each have two children.
Roger met Dee and they were married in Gillette, Wyoming, Later they moved to Fowler, Kansas, and have been married for 20 years.
Roger had been battling lung cancer, bone marrow cancer, and cancer of the brain since June of 2024.
Survivors include his son, Shane; daughter, Tavey; his wife Dee; five stepdaughters and stepsons form Dee, Misty Corbin of Alamosa, Colorado, Chanie Gregorich of Grand Junction, Colorado, Toby Nevin of Fowler, Kansas, Gary Nevin of Belleville, Texas, and Brad Maggart of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Survivors also include Roger’s twin brother, Rodney and Donita Kreger of Argyle, Texas, and 80 year old sister, Vicki Schroder of Ammon, Idaho.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Victor, and mother, Velora Mae, his brother, Dennis W. Kreger, Sr., who was 60, and stepson, Mark Nevin of Fowler, Kansas.
A Celebration of Roger's Life will be held at the First United Methodist Church, (215 W Works St, Sheridan, WY 82801) starting at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 28, 2026. Interment with Military Honors will take place in the Elk's Section of the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Reception to be announced.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Elk's Lodge.
