Shirley Jane (Lewis) Carter, 83, of Sheridan, “Went fishing” joining her beloved Keith on Friday, August 18, 2017.Shirley was born on January 11, 1934 to parents Raymond Paul and Leona (Sept) Lewis in Sheridan, WY. She married Keith Carter on August 3, 1954. She cooked for hunting camps while Keith guided for Big Game, worked at P.O. Snack Bar, baked for Clover Leaf Bakery and ended her career as a cook for sixteen and a half years at the Sheridan VA Canteen.Shirley enjoyed crocheting, baking, gardening, music, reading,watching the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies games, she loved spending time with family fishing and camping. She was Mom and Grandma to everyone.Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband Keith, brothers, Raymond Paul “Pete” Lewis Jr, Fred Robert Lewis, sisters Dorothy Grace Lewis, Rosemary Lewis and daughter Dorothy Ann Carter. Son in law Rick Ballard, brothers in law Jack Cooper, Robert Christy, sister in law Lois Lewis. She is survived by her children, Lorin (Debi) Carter and Holly Ballard both of Sheridan, sisters, Barbara Stevenson of Upton, WY, Bonnie Christy of Broomfield, CO, sister in laws Emma Lou Cooper of Palm Dessert, CA, Mary Lewis of Forsyth, MT. six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.Memorials to honor Shirley can be made to Sheridan Senior Center, 211 Smith Street, Sheridan, WY 82801 or to Eagle Ridge Rehabilitative Services, 54 Seymour St., Sheridan, WY 82801.An Inurnment will be held at 2:00 P.M on Friday, September 15, 2017, at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, with Pastor Doug Goodwin officiating. A reception gathering will follow the service. .Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
