About:
Thomas Cecil Martin
April 9, 1927 – October 3, 2010
Longtime resident Thomas Cecil Martin passed to a better place October 3, 2010, at Sheridan Manor in Sheridan, Wyoming. He was 83 years old and had been ill for a couple of months. Thomas was born at the Weston Store April 9, 1927. His Father & Mother Cecil & Helen were caught in a Blizzard and he was delivered by Mrs. Lucas at the old Weston Store. Thomas grew up on his dad’s homestead 50 miles North of Gillette with a large family of 5 brothers & 1 sister. He went to grade school at Lower Olmstead and graduated from Campbell County High School. He worked on the homestead when he was younger. At the age of 12, he fell on some ice and bruised his hip and infection ate part of his ball and socket out and limped most of his life. Thomas was an excellent shooter with both a rifle and a pistol; he could shoot marbles out of the air all day long. He and his brothers went to many fast draw contests and his record still stands as Wyoming State Champion. Thomas & his brothers had a Country Band & played for many country dances for Biddle, Mont. to Recluse & Gillette in the late 50’s early 60’s. He went to work running heavy equipment for Leon White, a neighbor on Little Powder River in the late 40’s and that was the trade for the rest of his life. He was probably the best blade operator that ever lived. He worked many construction jobs all over the state of Wyoming then went to Alaska in 1963. He then worked in Alaska for many years and throughout all of the Alaska Pipe Line. After retiring in Sheridan, Thomas fished every day for the rest of his life. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Cecil & Helen, brothers Zane and Stanley and sister Patsy. He is survived by his brothers Dade of Las Vegas, Dale of Sheridan & Johnie Joe of Gillette. He will long be remembered and loved by his family and friends. And we know he is with JESUS.
